March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the NEA (National Education Association) has declared March 3rd – Read Across America Day. Your kids can sign a pledge at their website if they want to do that. If you would like to learn more about Dr. Seuss or his books or just play some games, visit Seussville. (Just a note, this is one of those instantly noisy websites. You might not want to open it right after you get the baby to sleep.) You can celebrate all things Seuss and reading at several places around town this weekend and Monday. Did I miss any? Let us know.

The Red Balloon will be celebrating Read Across America with a Dr. Seuss story time. They’ll be joined by the Cat in the Hat to read some Seuss, play games and participate in Seuss-related activities. Bring your camera for photos with the Cat.
All the Creative Kidstuff locations will be hosting a birthday party for Dr. Seuss that includes treats and crafts fun for the family. The will also be having a drawing for tickets to see The Cat in the Hat at The Children’s Theater Company later this spring. We recently attended an event at Creative Kidstuff for The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The staff was friendly, it was not very crowded and all of my kids from the 2-year-old to the 8-year-old had a good time. It’s hard not to walk out without spending money though. It’s a toy store after all.
