Run! Jump! Fly! Adventures in Action™ Minnesota Children’s Museum • 10 West Seventh Street, St. Paul, MN 55102 Target Free Third Sunday Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Target ages 5 – 12, with some activities for 2 – 5.
It has been awhile since I’ve attended a Free Third Sunday at the Minnesota Children’s Museum. While it is always a lot of fun, I have to assume it will be a full-day outing. I’m also not a huge fan of their recent trend of designing exhibits around licensed characters. My children are saturated with enough of that everywhere else. Add to that the large crowds, and it takes a pretty special exhibit to drag me to St. Paul.
That special exhibit may be Run! Jump! Fly! Adventures in Action. Your family can try out kung fu, surfing, snowboarding, yoga and horizontal climbing and act out their own action adventure saga.
This exhibit focuses mainly on encouraging physical activity while highlighting cultural stories to deepen kid’s motivation to move. I was hoping for a little biology to go with it, but it doesn’t look like they are focusing on that. This could be an area for family exploration. I am hoping to get my oldest child more active and coordinated this year; and I believe I may have to appeal to her intellectual side to get there. We may decide to extend this theme with some sports experiments from Science Kids. Hopefully, this exhibit will get her excited about some new activities, including.
- Surfing and Snowboarding to develop balance — complete with Hawaiian shirts or down-style vests;
- Kung Fu to develop coordination;
- Climbing to develop strength;
- Flycycle for endurance; and an
- Action Star Training for all of these things.
Kids can leave the exhibit with some ideas for things they can do at home such as yoga, strength training and dance.
