The Minnesota Museum of American Art (“The M”) expects to remain physically closed until June of 2021. If that date changes, we will update this page. In the meantime, museum patrons are encouraged to view window-display exhibits and interact with the museum through The M @ Home Virtual Experience, where they offer content for families and to explore together and resources related to that content. Find more on: The M was founded as the St. Paul School of Fine Arts in 1894, and formally incorporated in 1927, when it began collecting works of art for instructional purposes. From the 1950s on, under the name Saint Paul Art Center, it pursued an avid program of exhibitions—including biennials of drawings, craft, and contemporary art—and assembled an esteemed collection of paintings, work on paper, sculpture, and craft. After closing for rebuilding, The M re-opened in December of 2018 in its expanded new space. The M had intended to expand its family-friendly offerings after expanding into its new space.
