Three great reasons (among many!) to plan a trip to Como Park Zoo & Conservatory this month. All activities have been family-tested and marked with the stamp of approval!
Groovin’ in the Garden
1225 Estabrook Drive, St. Paul
Visitor Center/Conservatory lawn
Wednesdays, June 18 – August 6, 2014 • 6 – 8pm
Truly something for everyone in the family — live music, food and drinks (by purchase) for the adults; lawn games, a climbing wall and a bouncy house (all free) courtesy of St. Paul Park & Rec for the kids. We brought a picnic for the big lawn and capped off the night at the recently renovated playground nearby. Get the summer’s concert series lineup here.
1245 Midway Parkway, St. Paul
FREE rides dates for 2014: June 16, July 14, August 18, September 15
11am – 4pm
Free rides for the young and young at heart are offered on the dates above. It’s a spring tradition of ours to visit the antique merry-go-round when the temps are bearable and the price unbeatable. Regular hours of operation are Tuesdays through Fridays 11am – 4pm and weekends 11am – 6pm. Cost is $2 per rider over age 1.
Chipotle Edible Garden
Outdoors, adjacent to the Visitor Center
June 13 – Fall 2014
This seasonal exhibit, developed to teach visitors how to grow and prepare food at home, features all kinds of plants you can EAT! My kids were salivating just walking through the exhibit last summer. Chipotle will be on hand June 13 — opening day of the garden — giving away tomato plants and hosting crafts, games, and an edible scavenger hunt.
