Free Family Weekend Events List for August 7 – 10, 2015

It’s all about art this weekend in the Twin Cities. Minneapolis and St. Paul are hosting four of their big annual festivals, plus join Minneapolis Institute of Arts as they celebrate their 100th birthday with a block party bash. Hours: Fri • 3-11pm, Sat • 10am-11pm, Sun • 9am-7pm
Family-friendly details: Of special interest to kids are the art and activity tents. Take an Irish dance lesson, play cultural games, make a craft, make a tin whistle and listen to child musicians. You can find a complete listing of events, plus entertainment, speakers and exhibitors here.
Getting there: Metro Transit is sponsoring free rides to Union Depot (download your pass here) where a connecting shuttle will take you out to Harriet Island. You can get more information about parking near the Fair here.

@ Lake Street/Hennepin Avenue & “The Mall” in SW Minneapolis

Hours: Fri • Noon-8pm, Sat • 10am-8pm, Sun •  10am-5pm
Family-friendly details: This year’s Family Imagination Station is once again repped by Northern Clay Center, so expect hands-on art-making for all ages. Joy has covered tips on taking young kids to the Uptown Art Fair; you can find them here if you’re on the fence about attending.
Getting there: Download a free Metro Transit Art Pass here for service from your door to Uptown Art Fair, Powderhorn Art Fair, and the Loring Park Art Festival.

Hours: Sat • 10am-6pm, Sun • 10am-5pm
Family-friendly details: Kids can look out for puppet performances by Open Eye Figure Theater, art projects with ArtiCulture, a book walk and oodles of free demonstrations and performances. Get the complete entertainment schedule here.

Loring Park Art Festival
@ Corner of Oak Grove St./Hennepin Ave. across from the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis

Hours: Sat • 10am-6pm, Sun • 10am-5pm
