Windom Northeast Park is a favorite with my kids. The play equipment is slightly more challenging than at many other parks. Another parent commented on how they noticed that the equipment was made for movement. It doesn’t really allow for sitting still.

Windom Northeast Playground and Tot Lot

The park contains two connecting playgrounds, one appropriate for grade school and another designed for toddlers.

There is a tot lot for the littler kids. The tot lot structure is a little more enclosed for the safety of smaller kids. It also includes a 4-seat teeter totter and baby swings.

Kite Flying

This is a good site for kite flying. There is plenty of wide-open space without power lines or trees to run.

Windom Northeast Park Wading Pool

Windom Northeast Park shares space with Pillsbury Elementary School; therefore, its wading pool opens after school releases and closes before school starts in the fall. This is one of the older wading pools without the zero depth entry or special spray features. Minneapolis wading pools are unguarded.

Windom Northeast Recreation Center

Windom Park’s Recreation Center is an air-conditioned facility. It offers drop in use of board games, computer lab, foosball, ping pong and billiards. It has a community kitchen, a craft room, a gymnasium, a meeting room and a multipurpose room.

Note that the Rec Center is located in the southeast corner of the park and shares a building with Pillsbury Elementary School. It can look like it is across the street from the main park, but you can actually get to the building without ever crossing a street because Hayes Street does not go all the way through in that corner.

Birthday Parties at the Rec Center

MPRB rents park facilities for birthday parties and other private events. Individuals and groups are encouraged to use the centers and park spaces for self-directed activities. There are different permit requirements and special use fees, depending on the use. Contact Info: windom@minneapolisparks.org
