The park is home to the trailhead of the new Black Dog Trail, which officially opened June 3, 2017. Families can bring bicycles, scooters and other non-motorizes vehicles to explore the newly paved trail. Get a copy of the trail map from the City of Burnsville here: Black Dog Segment Map.

The Black Dog portion is part of the larger, 17-mile River Greenway Trail. Pedestrians and bicyclists can travel from Minnesota Riverfront Park as far as Highway 77. It traverses Burnsville, Eagan, Mendota Heights, Mendota and Lilydale ending at at St. Paul’s Lilydale Regional Park. The trail will be maintained year-round.

Bicycle Repair Station at Minnesota Riverfront Park

The DNR has been placing Bicycle Tune-Up Stations along state trails in an attempt to make Minnesota the “Bike Friendliest State”. Now Burnsville will be adding one of these stations to the Minnesota Riverfront Park. These stations offer basic tools and an air pump to do a quick tune-up should you need maintenance on a family bike ride.
