Bunker Hills Regional Park wins the title of most expansive park in the Anoka County Parks system. Families will want to know that there are dozens of ways to spend a day at Bunker Hills: the park has a decent-size playground with a (very) small splash pad, a tot lot, and mostly standard equipment (except one loopy, climby structure). There are paths for biking and hiking in the mild months and cross country skiing in the winter. There are opportunities to swim, horseback ride and practice archery. If you’re planning a special event, pick from five picnic pavilions and plenty of green space for casual picnics spread throughout the park. Want to make a night of it? Bunker Hills is an affordable option for camping.

Bunker Hills Playground

Disc Golf

The 9-hole disc golf course is free (other than parking of course). It is located near the picnic and playground area. For more disc golf courses: Disc Golf in the Twin Cities.

Family Archery

Bunker Park’s outdoor archery range includes several different types of ranges. The cost is $3 per person. For more archery ideas, we have a roundup of local archery ranges.

Bunker Hills Beach and Water Park

This park is home to Minnesota’s largest outdoor water park, including a wave pool, lazy loop, twisted towers and adventure pool. The  beach season runs from early June – Labor Day. Beach hours are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., daily. This water park is not one of the cheaper parks with admission running from $14.00 to $16.00 per person plus the park’s vehicle fee and extras for use of lockers or float tubes. Season passes are available and will pay for themselves quickly for those who swim often. Concessions are available at the water park.

Best Time to Visit: Consider visiting on a less-busy weekday. The beach can get crowded on peak days and lines can get long. Weekends tend to hit full capacity.

2023 Hours of Operation: June 10 – August 27, 2023; 11am-7pm daily. (Subject to change due to weather).

Admission: General Admission: $19/day; Seniors 62+ $15/day; 18 months and under FREE. Twilight discounts $15/general; $13/seniors.

What to Bring: Keep your personal items minimal. There are lockers available if you need them. Definitely bring water bottles for everyone. Pack a picnic. You can’t bring food in, but you can get your hand stamped and have a picnic in the park at lunch.

Bunker Hills Water Park Coupons and Discounts

While the water park’s prices may be a bit high for bigger families, there are some ways to find discounts, including promotional days, group rates and season passes. Watch for the lowest prices on season passes in January and February.

Tot Time at the Water Park

Parents can bring their pre-k’s on Tuesday & Thursday mornings before the park opens for the day (9:15am-10:15am) for a reduced rate of $5.00/swimmer. Adults are free. This time is set aside as an exclusive opportunity for guardians and tots to avoid the crowd. Find more preschool swim times: Tot Time Open Swim at Twin Cities Pools & Aquatic Centers.

Bunker Hills Stable

Bunker Park has riding stables with educational and recreational activities. Appointments are required. A few years ago, Gianna reviewed several Twin Cities stables. Bunker Stables was one of them. You can read the review at Twin Cities Stables: Bunker Park Stable.
