Brickmania Toyworks was started by independent designer Daniel Siskind in 1999. Once a treasured neighborhood secret, Brickmania has grown beyond its humble Northeast Minneapolis beginnings. Its popularity has grown along with its reputation for offering high quality building kits made from genuine LEGO brand parts, but in subjects falling outside the company’s official product line at the time of their release. These kits include medieval and renaissance castles, age of pirates and colonization, and military models from World War I, World War II, and modern warfare. You can also find stickers to customize your creations.

Who Will Enjoy A Visit to Brickmania?

  • If you have a child whose LEGO building has progressed to an art-form, this is a must-visit store.
  • If you have a child you want to inspire to build with LEGOs, this could be a great inspiration.
  • If you have a WWII or military history buff in your family, they’ll want to visit this store.

Disadvantages of Brickmania

Brickmania isn’t really a kids toy store and isn’t a place to let your kids run loose. It is a hobby store for adult LEGO enthusiasts. While they once offered play times for families, those events are long gone and there is no indiation Brickmania intends to bring them back. This store is probably best for families with bigger kids.

Brickmania Toyworks is back in Northeast Minneapolis!

After a stint at the Mall of America, Brickmania headquarters are back in Northeast Minneapolis. Now in the Thorpe Building, they offer Micro Brick Battle Open Game Nights on select Thursday evenings. (This is “a fast-paced table top strategy game using 1:120 scale models built with LEGO® bricks.”)

The store has a small gallery that families can explore when they visit the store. Family-friendly features include:

  • A scale size model of the USS Missouri with a scavenger hunt of things to look for on the ship.
  • Changing Dioramas of historical events
  • Displays and Kits for models, especially WWII historical models.
  • Inventory that is only available in-store.

Where Has the Twin Cities Lego Train Club Gone?

The Twin Cities Lego Train Club, who was once a staple of the Brickmania Open Houses is now the Greater Midwest Lego Train Club. They are still alive and well and housed at the Twin City Model Railroad Museum.

  1. Thank you, Linda and Andy, for pointing out that we had neglected to update this entry. We have updated Brickmania’s information and added some ideas for other places to find building events and model trains.
