St. Paul Cinco de Mayo Festival
Saturday, May 4, 2013
9 .am. – 6 p.m.  FREE!

My tenuous ties to St. Paul’s Cinco de Mayo celebration include marching in the annual parade down Wabasha Street on the city’s West Side many years back. I won’t disclose exactly how many years it’s been since that parade, but I will say that the event has blossomed and expanded immensely since those days. The parade – a fiesta staple showcasing local businesses – will still make its run this Saturday, May 4, starting at 10 a.m. Other fun elements will join the parade including a Family Zone and Community Village near Parque Castillo (Cesar Chavez & State Street).

The Community Village, in its second year participating in the festival, was established to support local West Side artists, growers, crafter and vendors. Arranged market style, the Village will offer handmade and homegrown examples of the neighborhood’s talents.

St. Paul’s West Side is home to a vibrant and diverse neighborhood called District del Sol. It is this area that hosts the Cinco de Mayo festival each year and draws thousands to the authentic restaurants and shops along the main commercial corridor. Many of these are represented as vendors during the festival alongside great musical entertainment, a Sports Zone, special activities for families, a 5K run, and a lowrider car show. The day’s complete schedule can be found here.
