Shelly Boyum Breen–the author, creator, and prototype of Shelly Bean–grew up in Brainerd, Minnesota as a girl who like to play.
It’s that time again: Switching our capsules.
To be honest, the boys didn’t need many new items, a couple more sweatshirts (replacing t-shirts) and another pair of warm athletic pants. They were done.
The girls and mom on the other hand? We had a few more holes to fill in. FFTC partnered with Arc’s Value Village to bring you a real-life look at thrift shopping for your capsule wardrobe. In doing this, Arc’s Value Village provided us a 20% discount for our purchases. No other compensation was exchanged, and boy, do I have things to share with you!
This is going to be fun.
November is around the corner which means “We Can Give Back Month” is almost here! Woohoo! Read More
I grew up in Minnesota– all over. I was born in Moorhead, moved to Fergus Falls area, lived on the North Shore, and lived in western Minnesota. Now, as you know, I am a part of the masses that make up the Twin Cities.
I love Minnesota. I have a Minnesota pride that is hard to beat, and I am passing that along to my kids. Although with a dad from and two sets of grandparents currently live in Wisconsin, they have a strong affinity for the neighbor to our East.
And honestly, I am okay with that.
Despite that fact, some of my best memories come from my growing up years in Morris, Minnesota. Read More
If you’ve been reading FFTC for any length of time (even just a couple of weeks), you probably have figured out that we love good children’s literature. And I’m not talking about Little Golden Books (although they have their place–in our house we have a place for approximately 200 Little Golden Books, but that story is for another time). We love classics. We new releases. We love bookshops. We love libraries.
We love authors. Read More

Stages Theatre Company always makes me happy, but rarely does it take my breath away. The Little Mermaid, Junior did just that. With Dash on my lap, we gaped at the scenery and all the oceanlife included in the show.
It’s a professional show done mostly by young actors and my kids loved it. Some characters were slightly less believable than others, but it didn’t matter. The whole story is a fairytale. It’s all about magic and fun! We enjoyed every minute of it. Me and my kids ranging in age from 5-10.
It’s a great story for both boys and girls! (just ask my reluctant 7 year old son who didn’t want it to end)
The Celts are taking on the Templars and we’re invited to watch. Read More
My daughter so enjoyed celebrating her eighth birthday party at Color Me Mine that I was inspired to share this cool — and very kid-friendly — ceramics studio with our readers. The Eagan location is open seven days a week and requires no reservations, just show up ready to get creative with dozens of pieces to choose from and a crazy rainbow of paint colors.
Color Me Mine also offers classes, parties and — the subject of this awesome giveaway — a Kids Night Out program every third Friday of the month! The studio has generously donated one KNO Pass that includes: childcare from 5:30-8pm (that’s right, it’s a DROP-OFF activity!), a ceramic piece to paint, games, a movie, and a pizza dinner. Children must be 5 years of age or older to attend and reservations for this event is required. To plan ahead, you can get a list of the upcoming dates and movies here. In order to register as a winner of this giveaway, please contact the studio at 651-454-4099 and tell them Family Fun Twin Cities sent you.
This Flash Giveaway is open until 9pm tonight, June 8. Winner will be notified by email.
