So you’ve got a little one who’d prefer to become accustomed to the pool without those periodic (and unintentional) slaps of water in the face from sharing space with the big kids? The following Twin Cities pools are offering special tot times this summer solely for the purpose of helping youngsters get comfortable in the water: Read More

Families with Special Needs are our HEROES! We have always thought that. After attending AUSM’s Steps of Hope event in 2016, we knew that we needed to up our game to serve our heroes even better.
We decided to make this Special Needs ShortList as a launching point. This guide is for families in the midst of crisis–or friends of those families– who need a place to start. This is our first step, our first attempt. Feedback and suggestions are very welcomed.
The Special Needs ShortList is sponsored by the Autism Society of Minnesota.
My name is Maya. I am eleven years old, and my mom is Gianna Kordatzky. Recently, I did an interview with Nicole Jennings. She is the wife of Greg Jennings (who was a wide receiver for the Packers, the Vikings, and the Dolphins. He is now retired and is whole-heartedly supporting his wife’s endeavors, acting, and broadcasting for different football events). Nicole is also the owner of One Posh Closet and One Posh Closet Kids.
From what I have experienced, a picture book illustrator is a fun person. Especially those from Minnesota.
I guess I could be biased, but I don’t think so. At the beginning of August, we met Mike Wohnoutka and today we meet Nina Crittenden.

“Family Music Classes are for the parents as much as the kids.”
-Sarah McCaffrey Ritchie
Sarah McCaffrey Ritchie is a Twin Cities mom who is passionate about her kids (twin infants and a 2 year old–yes, she is amazing) and about music education.
Simply put, she is nuts about teaching music to anyone. She received her Bachelor’s of Music in flute performance at Eastman School of Music. She then moved to New York City and trained to be a Music Together teacher. She completed her Masters degree from the University of Buffalo, NY in Music Education with a K-12 certification but taylored for early childhood education.
Sarah grew passionate about the concept of a specialized form of musical training. Read More
Stephanie Watson is a native Minnesotan who grew up immersing herself in stories: reading, watching TV, acting in Children’s Theatre Company shows and spending lots of time at the library. She is a local author who teaches writing classes and does picture book critique work as well.
Most importantly, she is happy to be a soul parent. (Trust me, it’s most definitely soul and not sole–her heart and humor is two sizes too big)
She and her 5 year old daughter (who shares my birthday!) live in Minneapolis.
We are pumped to have Stephanie on BookHounds this month as she is a dynamic mama with a really cool job. She talks about what it’s like to be an author and how they foster reading in their home.
