The Art Gallery at the Ames Center

The Art Gallery is free and open to the public with exhibits that change several times a year. We find free community art galleries to be an easy way to begin introducing children to the concept of art appreciation and museum conduct. Visits can be kept short, parking is generally easier to find than at urban museums, and they are generally less crowded.

Concession Stand

In October 2016, the center added a permanent concession stand to the lobby. Visitors will find coffee and sandwiches on their menu, making a stop at the Ames Center for art and coffee a nice idea to mix with a visit to Nicollet Commons for the winter lights or summer movies and splash pad.

A visit to the Ames Center is a nice addition to community entertainment at Nicollet Commons

The Ames Theatres

The Ames is home to the Twin Cities Ballet, the Dakota Symphony, and The Chameleon Theatre Circle. Upcoming shows can be found on their events page. While there may be some offerings aimed at families, most shows at this theatre are probably best enjoyed by adults and older kids. Deals can often be found through our affiliate, GoldStar.
